Homemade Bread Crumbs

Bread crumbs
Bread crumbs are very easy to make at home and they taste fresher than the ones you get at the store. I also prefer them because the size of the crumbs is not uniform, which gives whatever you're making a more interesting texture.

To make them, lay a few slices of bread on a cookie sheet. Any type of bread will do, sliced sandwich bread or crusty loaves, whole wheat or white. Of course, a variety is the best.

Toast them in a 350 degree oven just until they dry out and begin to darken in color, 5 to 10 minutes. The goal isn't really to toast them, but to get them to be quite crumbly. Remove them from the oven and let them cool. Whirl them in the food processor until they look like bread crumbs.

Store in an airtight container. They'll keep for a few weeks.
