As we head towards the Thanksgiving holiday, I want to pause to think about the many things for which I am grateful. Much on my mind are the difficult illnesses of two people we love very much. Yet there is still much that fills me with gratitude.
~ Small, kind acts from adults and children alike, such as a gentle touch, a willing companion, or a batch of cookies lovingly made.
~ The awareness that the depth of sorrow comes from knowing how much joy is possible.
~ The resiliency of children.
~ Conspiracies between siblings.
~ Abundant food and an abundance of family with whom to share it.
~ A husband who drives that extra mile, again and again.
~ A wicked sense of humor.
~ The history that I share with my siblings -- the good, the bad and the ugly.
~ The power of music -- played, sung, or heard -- to lift my spirits (Natalie Merchant's Leave Your Sleep is still hanging in as my favorite album of the year).
What are you grateful for this year? I wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving, to you too!

What a great list of what your grateful for. I often forget humor when thinking about what I'm thankful for. I love this Kahlil Gibran quote about sorrow and joy:
"Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain."
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I'm grateful also for your blog and the inspiring recipes you send my way!
