We have had a busy couple of weeks around here. Camps for the children, the Governor's House shindig, and, on Saturday night, a big bash at Sarah and Ed's vineyard to celebrate my father's birthday. I am so happy to have my far away sister and brother here with their families. The party was wonderful, with family and friends gathered to honor and celebrate Dad.
In case you are wondering about the food -- which is, of course, what I would be wondering -- we served the lentil and feta salad, and this potato salad (with green beans, which are now in season, substituted for the asparagus). Ed grilled salmon, Sarah made a strawberry soda, and we had local cheeses from Cherry Glen and Chapel's Country Creamery. I made this cake from one of my favorite cooking sites, www.smittenkitchen.com. The frosting was very easy to work with, and the cake was delicious. Sarah suggested decorating with Black-Eyed Susans, which were perfect for a summer party.
Now we are all headed off for some much-needed rest and fun at the cabin in the Adirondacks where we went as children. It will be wonderful to be there together, sharing with our children the joys and delights of summer at the lake. I wish you all a wonderful couple of weeks, too. Wherever you spend it, I hope there will be family and good food.
I have a few posts set to publish while I am away that I think you will enjoy. See you in August!
